THE ELEMENT OF WATER

The Element of Water
Water is the element of love and the emotions because it is as fluid as our feelings and it is the power that shapes all our relationships, from friendships to marriage.
It relates to the subconscious mind, constantly shifting and active beneath the surface, and affecting our moods and emotional responses. It influences sleep and dreaming, visions and our deepest desires.
The Moon influences the oceans to create tides, which follow her ever changing cycle. In the same way she influences our bodies, affecting our emotions, moods and a woman’s menstrual cycle.
We can see the ebb and flow of water mirrored in the cycles of our own lives. It can be calm and deep, thirst quenching and life giving or it can be destructive as can all the elements.
The energy of Water is feminine and receptive. It rules the West, the direction of the setting sun, and its season is Autumn.
Water is an element of purification and healing.
Water is cleansing and essential to life. Our own lives begin in water , therefore this element symbolizes the womb and is related to fertility and birth.
Water also governs our intuition, compassion, spirituality, receptivity, psychic ability, creativity, depth and mystery.

Water Goddess is larger that life. She is not unlike the great sea monsters spoken of by sailers of old. She has currently taken on the form of an octopus, partly because of their extreme intelligence, and partly because of their amazing ability to squeeze into any space their beak will fit through. As the sea is the origin of life, all life is drawn to her. Janice Blaine
